This page will capture my thoughts on new product concepts in different areas -
CHEMISENSE - WEARABLE QUALITY MONITOR
As presented in the YouTube video, this unique concept to monitor asthma triggering chemicals in a proactive manner using innovative polymer based resistor technology certainly has value in the marketplace. Moreover, this technology encompasses various areas of focus such as, Computer Science, Chemistry, Engineering and Physics combined with crowdsourcing of data addressing the system thinking process. There are three major concerns that the team needs to consider:
1. The target audience
2. Proactive monitoring can promote stress and trigger Asthma (http://www.webmd.com/asthma/guide/stress-asthma)
3. Monitoring air quality does not solve the actual problem
The age group that we are talking about places this product in a tough spot. We are talking about kids, and teenagers, who may not wear these gadgets on a regular basis due to social pressure, or due to intrinsic playful nature of the kids. Moreover, a close proactive monitoring in the form of wearable gadget can cause anxiety amongst these kids, and potentially trigger stress-based asthma, whenever there is any deviation in the air quality from the norms. Most importantly, such wearable gadget does not serve the primary objective of improving the air quality.
Instead of making a wearable gadget, this group can look into collaborating with townships, municipalities and districts to install such monitors, and to generate heat map at different locations.

ADBLOCK - APP FOR NON_EXPERTS
I am impressed with this application, and think that with further progress in this area of app development, online tracking, and web related malware issues (especially for non-experts) can be addressed to some extent, and can give users some options to control the information that they would like to see.
Features to consider:
Ability to generate filter lists allowing elements to choose and block; Provide ways to add your own filters, and to whitelist domains to the list.
Ghostery and Blur are two other apps to consider. I will provide more details on these apps soon - for those of you not used to these apps, check it out -
I also tried out Opt out, and currently utilizing Web Of Trust (WOT).
I still need to explore more with NoScripts app. Based on first look, it would be more useful for experienced programmers.
ELMO' S WORLD, POCOYO'S WORLD ETC
My four year old asked me recently, Why is there no Elmo's world, Barney's world, Pocoyo's world, Play doh's world, Peppa Pig's world when there is Disney junior (for her, Disney world is the same as Disney junior)? - This question of hers made me think. May be, we need more of those around the country in US, and around the world. It will provide more options for consumers, and healthy competition for Disney, thus promoting innovation. (Point here being - more such theme parks)
Note: It took me some time to share this idea, though my daughter had mentioned it several months back.

OPERA BOOK (8/2/2015)
I was getting ready to add on to my gadgets, and then I remembered my PhD days when I had built three-four computers out of my own funds to run ab initio calculations for research work at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. That initiative gave me so much satisfaction for the reason that I was able to build and accomplish something on my own, and also utilize it towards my research work. Along those lines, I am keen to explore building Opera-Book that utilizes the Opera ecosystem.
INTERESTING COMMERCIALIZATION IDEA
It is time that the inventors of internet get a fair share of credit, and revenue. I remember reading an article where the inventors had concerns about commercializing their efforts, but if there are others who reap the benefits at excessive level of risks, it is time for the inventors to get a fair share as well, and also taxpayers.
Steps to be taken:
While working on any such new venture (such as, search engines, private browsers etc), partnership should happen directly with the universities that played an instrumental role in the development of internet, and also to build a commercial team (private-public partnership - private, preferably smaller financial firms) as and when the development is happening. The team also needs to include related workforce, who are seeking jobs (supported with relevant training, if necessary). Additionally, creation of multiple smaller companies (with right support) is vital to optimize the growth of these companies to a reasonable level, and to limit issues later on.
Along with this initiative, this collaborative effort could also include customized products at a reasonable price for those who are not internet savvy or barely computer literate; Such products need not be limited to this group, but customization becomes essential.
The other area of focus being, streaming content - the top three companies own around 47% of the market share, and there is still significant market share left for new entrants. Further, there is not much competition in the ISP space. Here, targeted customer friendly, safe content offerings (privacy will also become an important factor) becomes essential. Moreover, customization based on the audience can also be explored. This team can partner with post office (known for connecting people for centuries), which is looking for new revenue stream. This kind of JV can also enhance democratization of content, and address net neutrality issues to some extent. -
